MX9-RAM FLOOR TYPE MILLING-BORING MACHINE_ Andritz Savolinna Works Oy
Andritz is one of the main worldwide suppliers of plants, equipment and services for hydroelectric power plants, pulp and paper or metallurgy and iron and steel plants. They needed a new machine for their plant in Savolinna, Finland, for machining large pieces to use in their equipment for pulp and paper plants. Long-time customers of JUARISTI, they once again chose to put their trust in the brand for this project, ultimately deciding on a large MX9-RAM floor type boring machine.
With approximately 28,400 employees, Andritz operates more than 280 production plants in more than 40 countries. In Savolinna, Finland, they have facilities of more than 16,000 m2 for manufacturing and supplying equipment, machinery and services for the worldwide pulp and paper industry. They have a high-end equipment in their workshops for highly demanding machining of both small and large pieces. The machinery is kept up to date with an ongoing maintenance and investment programme.
The MX9-RAM presents numerous advantages for machining large pieces, in particular the 22,000 mm horizontal travel and the 6,000 mm vertical travel with very good performance at greater heights.
Precisely in the framework of this programme, they agreed to acquire a new machine aimed at machining large volume pieces up to 8,000 mm long and weighing 50 t.
Andritz is a regular customer of JUARISTI that has several of their machines in a number of production plants around the world. Being familiar with the capacity of JUARISTI machines, they contacted the company again through Machinery Oy, its representative in Finland, to design a new machine together.
A High Power and Maximum Precision Turnkey Solution
The solution delivered is completely customized to take on the production needs of Andritz. It is a mobile column milling-boring machine with a thermo-symmetric column design and all the structural elements are made of cast iron. The box-in-box configuration achieves high thermal stability and provides maximum precision and rigidity as well as a very significant increase in the life span of the cutting tools.
On the other hand, the reinforced vertical guiding, with two linear guides at the back and two more in the front, reinforces the stability of the assembly.
It has very long RAM and main spindle strokes (1,900 mm and 1,000 mm respectively), so it is possible to reach hard to access areas. To ensure maximum precision, it has in-house JUARISTI RPT (RAM Precision Technology) technology. It is a double hydro-mechanic real-time compensation system for the center of gravity of the RAM-head assembly and the bending of the RAM.
The machine is also unique because of its high power and cutting capacity. It can reach 64 kW of power and a machining torque of 4,047 Nm working continuously (94 kW and 5,945 Nm at IT 40 %). The maximum rotation speed of the spindle is 2,500 min-1.
Multi-Function and High Productivity
One of the main things that sets this machine apart is its working capacity in pendulum mode. It has three different work areas, which means the operator can load and unload pieces while the machine is simultaneously machining another component. In addition, it has two 3,500×3,500 mm MGX60 rotary tables with hydrostatic rotation, a V travel run of 4,000 mm and capacity up to 60 t.
In terms of multifunctionality, it is equipped with a JUARISTI ACD2 universal head with 0.001°x0.001° automatic positioning on both axes, a vertical head and a support for the main spindle. The assembly also has an automatic head changer (AAC) system.
Perfect for Machining Large Volumes
The Andritz MX9-RAM provides good feed rate for this kind of machine (25 m/min on the X, Y, Z axes) and numerous benefits for machining large pieces. Of note are the horizontal travel run of 22,000 mm and vertical travel run of 6,000 mm, with very good performance at greater heights.
To make working more comfortable, the operator platform has three independent movements, and its design puts an emphasis on ergonomics and provides the operator with a direct line of sight.
JUARISTI in Finland
Northern Europe has historically been a strategic market for JUARISTI, with very successful facilities in Finland, Sweden and Norway. JUARISTI began its expansion into Finland in the 70s where it has cooperated with Machinery Oy, a leading industrial group in Finland that does import, commercialisation, installation, repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
Machinery Oy has offices and service centers in different areas of Finland and main offices in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Joensuu.
The commercial focus and professional and personal service support have been key factors for the expansion of JUARISTI machines in Finland. Over the years, JUARISTI has supplied boring and milling machines to very prestigious Finnish customers: Nisamo Oy, Kumera Oy, Hakinnen Konepaja, Lannen tractors, Kone Cranes, Tikakosken, Kirike, Rolls-Royce, etc.
